Report 7: The Voice

So how are you lads and lasses, all good from here at Bushido.
Our studio work continues, this time I’m here to talk about vocals, yep, vocals…that wonderful crucial world where the fate of a record is decided, either is emotional, deep transcendental or “meh”. We, the band, take a lot of care in this department and of course the key is Francisco’s amazing voice that can be so versatile! I really love that about him: he can reach this high notes with power or he can lower his register to a warm confy place and in Time’s Forgotten we want it all!…many times…with more harmonies….so….you get the picture. This album will blow your mind with the vocals, really Longhi outdid himself this time, it’s amazing how he’s grown into the role throughout the years, I barely had to give him directions at all, he just went in and nailed every part!

Report 6, Chalo and amp sliding

Hello hello Time’s fans! Bringing you the latest and hottest news from around the studio and well, really, my bed hehe.
So, bass! yeah! This was one part of the recoding process I was really looking forward to since Chalo was the “new” guy and we hadn’t have the chance to go into the studio together before, and it was, to say the least, AMAZING. Chalo is such a wonderful player, has complete control over his instrument and such a creative mind!, and an arsenal of gear and sounds….it was a blast!
We used, 5 stringed bass, fretless bass, e-bow, distortion….you’re gonna LOVE the bass sounds on this album, plus he did things from groovy to delicate to shredding on bass, yeah you heard me!
To record the bass we used two signal paths: from the bass we went into a bass pedal called Bass Methaphors, to split the signal and add compression and a bit of distortion to one of the channels. That processed channel went into the bass Pod XT just to add some distortion that we really liked and to my preamp. The other channel, unprocessed, went into the Black Finger tube compressor and into the fabulous-amazing-awesome!! Mark Bass Amp, I cannot stop saying nice things about this amp, I want one, period. Then into a Shure Beta52 and then my preamp.
Funny thing was that I wanted to place the amp right on my wooden floor, to add a bit more sparkling highs and to have some more low end as well. But the amp was so powerful that it kept moving around while Chalo played hehehe so we had to put a mic stand to keep it from sliding on the floor….the things you do LOL.
I cannot tell you guys how greatful I am to have Chalo on the band and count him as one of my really good friends now, and to have gone to this amazing creative process with him was an experience I hope to do again many many times!

Cheers!
JP

Report 5, Ari part1 and laptop parts…

It’s been a long time…I’m sorry for that…oh well, Apple and holiday delivery madness should be sorry for that, since my laptop, where I have all the pictures and notes from the sessions broke down since October!!!, anyway I will catch up now ;) .
So guitars…that was something else, it was a looooong and intense process since there are layers upon layers of guitars in a Time’s Forgotten album, specially on this one since we wanted to make it sound heavy and in-your-face, and not only high gain distorsion parts, but clean sound parts, overdrive parts, acoustic guitar parts….you get the picture!.
For this album we wanted to keep the guitar signal path as simple as posible, so the only thing between the guitar and the amp was a booster so we could add more gain!!! yeah GAIN! hehe. Ari used an Mesa Boogie triple rectifier amp, courtesy of Rafa form Sight of Emptiness, for distorted sounds and his Sovtek for clean and overdriven sounds.
This time Ari had little time to come up with his arrangements at home, but he recorded his demos and brought them to the studio so we could polish them and record them properly, and I must say I was blown away, I truly think Ari has an amazing gift and the guy can play anything!, really, I’m honored to be in the same band as he.

So this is it for now!, will post next one really really soon I promise!
Cheers and Merry Christmas!

Report number 4 (drums)

Hello Hello everyone!
Juan Pablo here bringing fresh news from the studio!

So we just finished recording drums during a very very intense weekend were Jorge was drumming for 10 to 12 hours a day! hats off to him.
With this record we decided to use bigger sized toms than in Dandelion, 10¨, 14¨ and16¨ to make it deeper and heavier because there are lots of tribal like sections on this new album.
This is by far the most difficult of our albums for the drummer, lots of challenging patterns and more interesting concepts that were developed through the record, and I can say as producer that he really was on top of the songs, not only on the patterns he was playing but on the feeling that we’re trying to achieve.

So thanks Jorge! and now comes the turn for our brave guitar players to stand up to the task! hail!!! ……lol couldn’t help it

Cheers!

Report 3 (Pre-production)

(sigh with relief) The album is all written!!! we are very very excited about the material and we think it’s our stonger to date.
This time around we all made important decisions, took time to produce them between us and had regular meetings about the songs and where the album was going, hell, we even looked like a band!!! hehehe. Sadly Leo missed this last meeting so we’ll photoshop him later LOL.
Anyway, we’re starting the recording process around the 15th of september so we’ll keep you updated!

You don’t know what’s gonna hit ya! :D
Lots of metal hughs hehe
